ExproBase: A New Knowledge Base for the Upstream Community
ExproBase is a new online knowledge base primarily aimed at drilling, completion, intervention and subsea production professionals. Consisting of a comprehensive collection of structured knowledge on key work processes, databases and textbooks, the tool offers a unique source of knowledge aimed at understanding and preventing mechanisms that lead to undesired events in the upstream sector. The tool helps understand interactions between human, technical and organizational aspects through structured presentation of topics which may lead to costly downtime and severe accidents. The focus of ExproBase is basic knowledge and its relations rather than extensive subject details.

ExproSoft enters license agreement with Sintef on CARA-FaultTree
ExproSoft has entered into a license agreement with Sintef on CARA-Fault Tree. Originally developed by Sintef, the CARA Fault-Tree software is used extensively both by ExproSoft and a significant number of other companies. Under this agreement, ExproSoft will develop new tool functionality and offer the improved product to existing and potential new clients. ExproSoft will also have the right to use parts of the existing source code for integration with other ExproSoft software products aimed at the upstream sector of the petroleum industry.

Talisman Energy Norway awards WIMS contract to ExproSoft
Talisman Energy Norway has awarded a new contract to ExproSoft related to the WIMS (Well Integrity Management system)software. The contract is a “first” WIMS contract after developing version 1.0 under contract with StatoilHydro and Total E&P UK. The contract will involve development of new software functionality and technical and organizational implementation, with the view of going ‘live’ with all Talisman Energy Norway operated wells tied in to the system before year end 2008.

Drilling and well technology knowledge base contract from Hydro
Norsk Hydro recently awarded a breakthrough contract for a new drilling and well technology knowledge base to ExproSoft. The knowledge base is designed to make work processes in the drilling and well technology sector run more smoothly and is supported by a number of knowledge modules.

ExproSoft has received notification that the WIMS JIP’s abstract (SPE 110347) has been accepted as a poster session at the SPE Annual Technical Conference in Anaheim, California in November 2007.

WIMS version 1.0 released
ExproSoft recently delivered the WIMS basic version 1.0 to the Joint Industry Project participants Norsk Hydro, Statoil and Total EPC UK. This concludes the WIMS JIP development project that has been ongoing for the last two years.

New downhole and subsea equipment reliability reports available
Following expiry of the 3-year confidentiality period, the SubseaMaster Phase II and the WellMaster Phase IV reports are now commercially available. These reports contain reliability data on subsea production systems and downhole completions, respectively.

SubseaMaster inventory data import feature completed
To ease the data collection process an Excel inventory data import feature has been developed for v3.0 of SubseaMaster. This feature allows import of a minimum amount of inventory data preformatted in an Excel spreadsheet directly into a SubseaMaster version drawings as an alternative to using the existing "manual" P&ID drawing input functionality. As the visual P&ID image of the system layout will be distorted using this feature an added possibility of attaching documents to version drawings has been included.

FieldSim being developed for smart field economics forecasting
WellMaster's well completion LCC/LCP simulation tool (WelLCC) capabilities are now being expanded to include the economical and operational aspects of entire field developments. This FieldSim tool is currently being tested and is expected to be fully functional before end of 2004.

Deepwater SCSSV study for Petrobras completed
As of February 27, 2004, An ExproSoft-led consortium completed an extensive study of risk aspects related to completing a range of different well types (mostly subsea wells) with and without a tubing retrievable, surface controlled, subsurface safety valve (TR-SCSSV). The study contract was awarded in March 2002. Subcontractors to ExproSoft were SINTEF Environmental Chemistry, Well Flow Dynamics, Safetec and Marintek.

Design evaluation and risk assessment of well technology
ExproSoft has developed a new procedure for assessment of new well technology on behalf of Norsk Hydro. The objective of this procedure is to identify potential risks and "de-bug" equipment and procedures to achieve maximum reliability and minimize lost time and interventions. The procedure is particularly suitable for deepwater wells.

The Norwegian Research Institute SINTEF was instrumental in launching the spin-off company ExproSoft in April 2000. Through a recently completed agreement, SINTEF has now sold off its shares - leaving full control of the company with ExproSoft management and employees.

Downhole safety valve qualification for the Ormen Lange field
Norsk Hydro has awarded a contract for qualification of large bore downhole safety valves (DHSV/SCSSV) for the Ormen Lange subsea field development to ExproSoft. The contract is ExproSoft's biggest contract to date, and represents a breakthrough in the company's services on reliability qualification of new well technology.

An agreement was signed between SINTEF and ExproSoft on 22 June 2001 which transfers all commercial rights to a database for subsea blowout preventers (BOPs) to ExproSoft. Award of contract for Ormen Lange Project intervention study
The Ormen Lange Development Project with joint Norsk Hydro/Norske Shell operatorship is Norway's most challenging subsea development to date. The combination of a hostile climate, deep water (1000 m average) and potential mud slide risk makes Ormen Lange the 'ultimate'. ExproSoft was recently awarded a contract for a study on intervention requirements for this field.

Pilot version of LCC/LCP analysis software tested successfully
ExproSoft's Wellmaster phase IV project includes development of an Life Cycle Cost (LCC)/Life Cycle Profit (LCP) analysis module for well completions. A prototype version of the module, which is capable of detailed technical and economic risk analysis of advanced completions, was recently tested successfully against analytical calculations performed on a typical North Sea completion configuration test case.

The first reliability course organized by ExproSoft for the upstream technology sector was completed on Jan 11, 2001. The course, which was arranged at the BP/Chevron Alliance Training Centre in Houston, was attended by 21 professionals from 11 different oil companies and service companies.

WellMaster ranked Conoco's #1 R&D project in Norway.
In a report published in February 2000, Norske Conoco has ranked the WellMaster project their most cost effective R&D project over the past 20 years. Norske Conoco (operator during development phase) and Statoil (current operator) saved NOK 720 million (USD 80 million) during the Heidrun TLP development.
